EDC Appoints Nyagaka Ongeri to Board of Trustees

WALTHAM, MA | EDC President and CEO David Offensend announced today that Nyagaka Ongeri has joined EDC’s Board of Trustees.

A native of Kenya, Ongeri brings more than 20 years of experience in advising multinational corporations and development organizations on financing and strategy. He is based in New York at Barclays, where he is a managing director with responsibility for growing the Corporate Banking business with a focus on U.S. multinationals and development organizations.

“We are so pleased to add Nyagaka’s skills and experience to our board,” said Offensend. “As we continue to expand both our domestic and international programming, his expertise in finance as well as global development will be invaluable.”

Prior to joining Barclays in 2001, Ongeri was a senior vice president at JP Morgan’s South Africa office where he co-founded Student Sponsorship Program of South Africa, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) that has provided more than $10 million in grants to hundreds of high school students since its inception in 2000.

He currently serves on the board of AMREF Health Africa, a Kenya-based NGO dedicated to strengthening health systems in Africa. He is an avid mountain climber, having scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro and Elbrus, and a marathon runner with seven completed marathons.

Ongeri holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He was confirmed at EDC’s board meeting on May 24, 2016.
