EDC to Share STEM Expertise at New America Forum

On March 16, Cindy Hoisington will represent EDC as a featured panelist in the New America Forum, “What’s Next for STEM Education? Boosting Teachers and Teaching, PreK-12.” The panel, scheduled for 1:40 p.m., will be livestreamed (registration required).

A national early STEM education expert, Hoisington is a contributor to STEM Starts Early, one of several new reports that the panel will discuss. She is also the coauthor of two recent articles, “Gimme an E! Seven Strategies for Supporting the ‘E’ in Young Children’s STEM Learning” and “Foundations of Science Literacy.”

“I’m excited by the opportunity to be part of this panel and to bring my perspective as a science teacher educator at EDC to the discussion,” says Hoisington. “I look forward to a lively exchange of ideas about forging partnerships among practitioners, policymakers, and researchers—something I think of as an EDC strength—that will support STEM teaching and learning.”

“Teachers and families are pivotal partners in young people’s successful STEM learning,” adds Shelley Pasnik, EDC vice president and director of EDC’s Center for Children & Technology, “At EDC, our researchers and specialists are identifying and applying two-generation and three-generation strategies to help families support their children’s STEM learning and to strengthen partnerships between teachers and families. We definitely see that as one important piece of the ‘what’s next’ puzzle.”
