Liesbet Steer, EDC’s President and CEO will be stepping down on May 1. During her tenure, Liesbet helped catalyze our work for greater impact and clarity, and elevated our role as an important player in issues of global importance. As she steps away, she will continue to focus on realizing the Sustainable Development Goals, and we express gratitude for her leadership, contributions and long-standing commitment to driving advocacy and impact on critical issues.
Siobhan Murphy, EDC’s long-standing COO, will serve as interim President and CEO. Working closely with our Senior Leadership Team, Siobhan will ensure a smooth transition as we continue to deliver against our mission and goals. At the same time, the Board of Trustees will soon begin a comprehensive search for a new President and CEO.
“This is a moment of transition for EDC, and we wish Liesbet well on what is bound to be an inspiring next chapter in her distinguished career,” Ciara Burnham, EDC Board Chair said. “Our Board is enthusiastic about the work the team has done in partnership with Liesbet over the past year, and excited about EDC’s forward plans.”
Burnham noted the Trustees expect strong interest in the role given EDC’s mission, considerable strengths and ambitions for the future.
“EDC’s mission has never been more vital, and we are in an incredibly strong position, programmatically, operationally, and financially. We have the vision, people, and partners to continue to make a meaningful and lasting impact at the intersection of education, health, and economic opportunity,” Siobhan Murphy added.
