Join Upcoming Event on New Early Childhood Study

The first decade of a child’s life provides the foundation for learning, growth, and development. However, starting from birth, too many children face challenging obstacles associated with growing up in poverty.

EDC’s David Jacobson will introduce a new study on improving the quality and coordination of programs and services for children during the live-streamed panel event “All Children Learn and Thrive,” moderated by Christina Samuels, associate editor of Education Week, on April 30, in Washington, D.C. The event will be hosted by the New America Foundation.

Jacobson is the author of the report All Children Learn and Thrive: Building First 10 Schools and Communities. This report describes school and community partnerships that are working to improve teaching and learning, strengthen partnerships with families, and provide comprehensive health and social services. Jacobson terms these partnerships First 10 Schools and Communities.

“First 10 Schools and Communities represent one of the most powerful strategies we have to address yawning opportunity gaps, ensure educational equity, and raise achievement for low-income children,” says Jacobson. “This strategy demonstrates the potential of collaboration among school districts, elementary schools, and early childhood programs to improve education and care for young children and their families.”
