Haner Hernández, EDC senior technical advisor, has worked for over 33 years in the health and human service field developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally and linguistically intelligent youth and adult health prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support programs. As a bilingual master trainer and facilitator, he provides individualized technical assistance (TA) and support to organizations that provide substance use disorder, mental health, and gambling prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery supports.
Hernández is a senior technical advisor and TA associate for the Massachusetts Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling Prevention. He also serves as a consultant to local and state health departments, as well as federally funded initiatives focused on behavioral workforce development, HIV/AIDS, and substance use disorder prevention and treatment.
Hernández is a member of the steering committee for the national Peer Recovery Center of Excellence. Since 1998, he has served on the faculty at the New England School of Addiction Studies.
Hernández holds a PhD in Community Health Education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Originally from Puerto Rico, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
