James deMelo brings extensive experience in fiscal leadership and analysis, academic research, effective management, and invention education. His recent areas of specialization have included exploring the application of evidence-based management techniques to academic settings to determine how private-sector tools can be used to build management and leadership skills in scientists and students.

As the finance manager for EDC Solutions, deMelo oversees business development, analysis, and budget matters in support of EDC’s national work delivering direct client-tailored services focused on effective education and well-being, suicide prevention, and behavioral health interventions.

Previously, deMelo was the associate director of finance and administration at MIT’s Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship. At Lemelson-MIT, he advanced efforts to bring invention education to all students, especially those in traditionally underserved communities. Earlier in his career, he spent 12 years working in academic research labs studying stem cells, genetics, and the neuroscience of sleep and memory.

deMelo holds an MA in Biotechnology and Management from Harvard Extension School and a BA in Psychology with a focus on Neuroscience from Salve Regina University.
