Bill Tally, a national leader in instructional design, advances knowledge of innovative learning environments and experiences. His work as a senior investigator specializing in R&D, educational media, and evaluation is deepening the field’s understanding of how digital tools can make learning more rigorous, meaningful, and engaging.
Tally brings deep expertise in interdisciplinary learning, the digital humanities, and effective professional development. A focus of his work has been configuring digital archives to enable students, teachers, and the public to do authentic historical and scientific inquiry. Recently, he led the development of EDC’s Web-based curriculum Zoom In, now in use by 50,000 teachers and students across the country and around the world.
Tally has led instructional design initiatives for cultural institutions, including the New York Philharmonic. For over 10 years, he has headed up evaluations of Mission US video games.
Tally holds a BA in Psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz, an MA in Cultural Studies from the New School for Social Research, and a PhD in Sociology from the City University of New York.
